For more than 40 years, idc has been blessed with the opportunity to serve American agriculture by providing branding and marketing services to many wonderful Ag companies. So farming values run deep in the culture of this marketing firm.
And for some of us it goes back even further. I remember…it was 1960 something and I was standing on the draw bar of a red Farmall tractor – one hand on the right fender the other on the tractor seat as my grandfather backed us up to the New Idea manure spreader.
I skinned my chin on the PTO shield as I jumped down to the frozen January mud to hitch the spreader to the tractor.
“Need help with the PTO?” Grandpa asked.
I grunted, “No. I got it.” Though it was far too heavy for a 12 year-old.
But it was “high time” to demonstrate that I was a REAL farmer, someone who didn’t cry about a little blood running down his chin. And in a few painful minutes, it was “mission accomplished” (with a little help from grandpa in sliding the PTO into position). And we were off and farming that cold January morning so many years ago.
As time passed, there would be much more to learn from my grandfather and even more to learn from just about every farmer I’ve ever met. Important stuff like how to make machinery work again without paying a repairman, how to care for livestock, what it really takes to make a profit, how to help a neighbor and how to accept help when you need it. And most of all, how to get work done with others and with no help.
So, when Ram’s Superbowl spot declaring The Year of the Farmer first aired last Sunday, all of us at idc got excited about the opportunity to lend a hand to Ram in their effort to support the FFA and to raise money for the hunger relief.
Every time this spot is viewed, downloaded or shared Dodge Ram will make a donation to the FFA with a goal to raise $1 million for hunger relief.
So take a look!
